Every once in a while, a senior session comes along that reminds me exactly why I love being a photographer in Charleston, South Carolina. Amber showed up with the sweetest idea for her shoot. She brought her childhood best friends, Woody and Andy, and the nostalgia hit immediately.
If you grew up with Toy Story, you know the feeling. These characters were more than toys. They were little anchors in our lives, reminders of imagination, loyalty, and growing up without realizing it was happening. When Amber pulled them out of her bag, we both laughed because the moment felt so familiar. It was like stepping back into her childhood for a second.
We wandered through her chosen Charleston spot, using trees, golden light, and those iconic dolls to tell her story. What I loved most was how natural she was with them. She held them the same way she probably did at six years old. That kind of authenticity brings a session to life. You could feel how much they meant to her and it made every photo feel personal.
Senior photos don’t have to be stiff or overly posed. They should feel like you. They should tell the part of your story that still makes you smile years later. If that includes the toys you once carried everywhere, bring them. If it includes books, instruments, pets, sneakers, or anything else that feels like home, bring those too.
Amber’s session is a reminder that the best photos happen when you show up exactly as you are. Nostalgia never goes out of style, and this shoot was proof of that.
If you want senior photos that feel personal and true to you, I’d love to help you create something unforgettable here in Charleston. Reach out, bring your memories, and let’s tell your story.
